Ruto lauds Biden as he concludes his US state visit

President William Ruto has lauded US President Joe Biden for the warm reception he gave him during his four-day state visit.

Ruto in a statement on Friday, May 24, 2024, thanked Biden and the US First Lady Jill Biden for the state dinner that was held on Thursday evening at White House in Washington, DC.

Ruto said Biden's warm welcome created a memorable evening which he truly appreciated.

"On my own behalf and that of my delegation, I thank President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden for your exceptional hospitality at the state dinner. Your warm welcome created a memorable evening and I truly appreciated. Thank you Mr President," Ruto posted.

Ruto jetted out of the country on Sunday evening for a state visit to the US, which is comes to an end today.

Signing deals

The visit has seen Ruto strike various deals, including a Kshs23 billion deal inked with Coca-Cola company.

Ruto also used the US state visit to woo investors to come to Kenya which he termed as a strategic business location for investors seeking to enter the African continent.

Biden's commitment

Biden assured Ruto that the US and Kenya will always stand together, committed to each other and work towards building a better world together.

"Today, I am as optimistic and hopeful as I was all those years ago when Kenyan patriots raised a new flag high into the midnight sky. Kenya and the United States stand together. Committed to each other. Committed to our people. And committed to building a better world," he posted.

On the fourth and final day of his state visit to the US, Ruto launched the Kenya Urban Mobility and Growth Threshold Programme.

Nairobi deal

The programme worth Ksh7.9 billion ( $60 million) was signed between Ruto and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

The programme aims at addressing the economic growth challenges related to land use and transport planning in the Nairobi Metropolitan.

"The Kenya Urban Mobility and Growth Threshold Programme, which we launched in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, will tackle the economic growth challenges related to land use and transport planning in the Nairobi Metropolitan," Ruto posted on his social media platforms.

The programme will address transportation needs for pedestrians, advance safer transportation options for women, improve land use for investors, and catalyze financing for climate-friendly bus transit.
