Fresh wrangles have emerged in Kenya Kwanza leadership in Nyanza over Cabinet slots.

One section is allied to Eliud Owallo and another to former Migori Governor Okoth Obado (pictured).

The two camps are pushing for either of the leaders to be appointed to the Cabinet.

Yesterday, the differences played out when a team reportedly allied to Obado held a press conference in Kisumu in which they claimed Owalo’s team was sidelining them.

Led by John Odenyo, the team claimed Owalo was trying to keep them far from the ‘dining table’ yet they also sacrificed to market President William Ruto in Nyanza.

They criticised Owalo, saying he was now so much on the fore seeking for a Cabinet slot, yet he was never seen anywhere campaigning for Ruto even in his own electoral turf-Siaya county.

“We want a leader who will unite all of us. There is no point of segmenting Kenya Kwanza leaders and supporters in Nyanza,” Odenyo said. He said the team appreciates the bold step Obado took to market Ruto despite resentment from a section of the Luo community.

They rooted for both Obado and Owalo and many others who voted for Ruto to be considered for plum Executive positions.

Just last week, another team of Nyanza Regional Coordinators for United Democratic Alliance, led by Joseph Kirindo rallied for Owalo to be appointed CS.

Kirindo team claimed Owalo played a strategic role to market and strategise for Ruto more than Obado.

And as Ruto now prepares to name his Cabinet, jostling for the positions has continued to rage in Nyanza among the UDA camp.
