Tangatanga MPs blame govt after churches cancelled Ruto’s invites
William Ruto-allied lawmakers have laid blame on the state for having a hand in the cancellation of the Deputy President's church events.
The second-in-command was set to attend a service in Mbiriri, Nyeri County but according to reports, at least two churches have cancelled their earlier invitations under unclear circumstances.
Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua has since accused Kieni MP Kanini Kega of orchestrating the embarrassing withdrawals claiming that Kega, an avid supporter of President Uhuru Kenyatta, was hell-bent on suppressing Ruto's political foray in the region.
"Let me advise my good friend that when people offer help to his constituents he should not block it. We are aware he is trying to use the police to block the DP but he will come anyway," the lawmaker said.
In his defence, Kega refuted the sabotage claims stating that everyone is welcome to worship in Kieni.
"I have not blocked anyone from visiting my constituents so anyone trying to claim so is lying. Anyone is welcome to worship in Kieni as long as they do so with decorum and adhere to all protocols," he said.
Reports indicate that the DP will instead attend a church service at the Mbiiri Full Gospel Church after the earlier cancellations. The 2022 presidential hopeful is expected to be accompanied by droves of MPs and other leaders from the Mt Kenya region.
