Over 30 fringe political parties including The New Democrats (TND) associated with Jimmy Kibaki, the son of retired President Mwai Kibaki, yesterday came together to sign a coalition working agreement.

The parties were emphatic they will neither join Azimio La Umoja nor Kenya Kwanza coalition. Instead, the parties exuded confidence they would form the Third Force, an alternative coalition for Kenyans torn between Azimio and Kenya Kwanza during the August 9 election.

“We are not ready to enter into any form of coalition agreement with either; Azimio or Kenya Kwanza,” Jimmy said.

“More than ever before, we have Kenyans who don’t know whom to vote for or affiliate themselves with. Our coalition is open to like-minded Kenyans to join us so that we can take this country forward,” Jimmy, the TND deputy party leader noted.

TND, Peoples Party of Kenya (PPK), Party of Democratic Unity (PDU), and other 35 parties have formed an alliance of like-minded parties who fought for multiparty in Kenya under the umbrella of Kenya Yetu Alliance (KYA)

Alliance’s organising secretary, Thuo Mathenge said Kenyans need a vehicle to take them in the ‘right’ direction.

“Let the people decide is our slogan,” he said. The parties announced they will embark on nationwide rallies to preach peace.

“We will traverse the country and raise awareness among Kenyans on the importance of peace during this electioneering period,” Peoples Empowerment Party (PEP) Secretary General, Joyce Mwambingu said.

Meanwhile, the Green Thinking Action Party announced it had waived nomination fees for women candidates seeking elective positions in the 2022 polls.
