UDA invites applications for Gachagua’s Mathira ticket

The United Democratic Alliance Party (UDA) has implored aspirants interested in contesting for Mathira Parliamentary ticket to submit their applications before 20th May 2022.

In a press statement undersigned against the name of the party's NEB Chair Anthony Mwaura, UDA stated that the ticket is now up for grabs after their nominee for the parliamentary seat, Rigathi Gachagua, was picked by Deputy President William Ruto as his running mate in the presidential contest.

"On 15th May 2022, Honourable Rigathi Gachagua the UDA Candidate for a member of National Assembly Mathira Constituency was nominated as the UDA deputy presidential candidate. As a result, he will not be contesting for the member of parliament seat Mathira constituency," the statement read in part.

Rigathi Gachagua nominated as Ruto's running mate

Deputy President William Ruto named Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua on the 15th of May 2022 as his choice for the running mate position. Gachagua beat Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki to the position after a myriad of considerations during a robust discussion at Ruto’s Karen residence.

Ruto stated that Gachagua scored highly in every parameter that was used to reach a suitable candidate to aid him in captaining the Kenya Kwanza ship.

The Deputy President heaped praises on the lawmaker, describing him as an astute debater, a loyal ally and a talented ground mobilizer.

“Ladies and gentlemen that good Kenyan, my friend who I have worked with, especially in the economic model, I present to you the Kenya Kwanza running mate candidate my brother and friend Rigathi Gachagua,” Ruto announced.
