A section of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party members in Ugunja have defected to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

Speaking to the press, the defectors who included a section of boda boda riders and other area residents affirmed that they were happy to return to the Raila Odinga-led political outfit.

Led by the Chairman of Ugunja Boda Boda Riders Association, Maurice Amenya and Julius Onyango, the defectors decried suffering and empty promises from the President William Ruto-led UDA.

They noted that they amicably decided to ditch the ruling party without any coercion because the party was constantly making pledges with little to no intention of fulfilling them.

"I'm very happy to come back to the ODM party because where I was UDA, we were suffering because our president is always saying nimetenga so we as youths and boda boda riders have decided to come back to the ODM party," Amenya stated.

Another defector, Mildred Adhiambo Onditi, expressed relief for ditching the ruling party as it had become a terrible experience for her.

While airing out her frustrations, Onditi stated that the party was a happy place to be in the start but as time went time things got rocky forcing her to leave.

"I was happy to be with you at the beginning but it became terrible for me I'm away from UDA totally, pia tutaleta watu wengi btw, hii kitu imekua tu abrupt. We are going to bring more people," Onditi added.

Another defector encouraged the youths still clinging on the Ruto-led party to defect saying there was nothing good they would benefit from the party.

He further urged the ODM party to create more offices in Ugunja as this would help them recruit more youths to the party.

"I want to tell every youth listening that this government has nothing to offer to the youth apart from promises which we believe the next government will fulfil. So no I just want to request the ODM office to help us cause we want to do mass recruitment," he added.
