United Democratic Movement (UDA) allied Members of Parliament are now calling on Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to conduct the 2022 general elections in a free and fair manner.

While calling out the electoral body for having meetings with Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i and his ICT counterpart Joe Mucheru whom they accused of supporting ODM leader Raila Odinga, the MPs said IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati should engage directly with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"Chebukati should write a letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta and state clearly why he cannot work with ministers who have already taken sides,"  Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua said in Deputy President William Ruto's Karen residence on Wednesday.

Gachagua said President Kenyatta should move or sack the Cabinet Secretaries involved in politics.

"We want President Uhuru Kenyatta to deliver for us free and fair election. Free from violence. I think if he does that, he will place himself in the right part of history," Kandara MP Alice Wahome said.

The legislators' sentiments come days after CS Matiang'i, CS Mucheru, Chebukati, and CJ Martha Koome met to plan how they will carry out next year's elections.

CSs Matiang'i and Mucheru have openly campaigned for Raila as their 2022 preferred presidential candidate.
