The supremacy battle between Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru and her main opponent Woman representative Wangui Ngirici played out today in the presence of Deputy President William Ruto at Kianyaga in Gîchûgû Constituency, Kirinyaga County.

The backing that Ngirici seemed to enjoy before Governor Waiguru joined UDA, seems to have tilted in the favour of the latter.

As leaders addressed members of the public one by one, the crowd exploded in cheers when Governor Waiguru's turn came.

The DP called the Governor to address residents before he called Wangui to take the microphone.

Waiguru in her speech said that it is the public that will decide who will be UDAs party flag bearer in next year's general elections.

"As leaders, we ask our supporters to observe peace during the electioneering period without insults and the area residents will decide who will lead this county," Waiguru said.

However, when Ngirici took to the podium to address the public, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) supporters present appeared to shut her down by show of hands.

"We are saying the only option is William Samoei Ruto, and we shall continue to deliver for our residents, Thank you,"said Ngirici before the DP intervened after reading the mood of the public.

The two however declared their unwavering support for the Deputy President.

Earlier in the day, supporters of both leaders had engaged in a shouting match outside ACK All Saint's church within Kirinyaga.

It is however not clear what caused the chaos in the event.

Besides that, some youths allied said to be allied to Wangui Ngirici had set ablaze reflector jackets branded with Governor Waiguru's name and photograph.
