A County political showdown between Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru and Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici is expected to play out ahead of tomorrow's Deputy President William Ruto's visit to the region.

DP Ruto is expected to worship at the ACK Kianyaga after which he will hold rallies in Kirinyaga, Kutus and Kerugoya towns respectively.

However, the second in command visit comes at a time when the two women leaders are caught up in a political supremacy battle ahead of the 2022 general elections.

Both leaders have already declared their interest in the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat and are eyeing the United Democratic Alliance (UDA's) nomination ticket.

The two camps are said to be mobilising their supporters to turn out in large numbers to receive DP Ruto in a clear show of political might, where they have also published posters welcoming the DP in the county of Kirinyaga.

Governor Waiguru a fortnight ago hit back at Ngirici calling out the Woman Representative over her statement on taking a break from UDA in favour of Waiguru.

In her response to Ngirici, Waiguru said that UDA is a national political party where everyone is allowed to join.

“There is no party for individuals, a political party is for every Kenyan and UDA is for everyone,” Waiguru said.

According to the Governor, no one should be given priority in a political party just because he or she joined earlier.

The Governor further urged Ngirici to be open to competition, stating that it is the electorate who will determine their next leader.

On Thursday, Ngirici took a swipe at Waiguru accusing her of always copying her political moves.

“Politics is like a chess game, you must study it well. I have retreated to study it carefully before making my next move,” Ngirici told a local daily.

DP Ruto is expected to address a series of rallies in a bid to popularise his Bottom up economic plan in the vote rich Mt. Kenya region.

Governor Waiguru and her political competitor Ngirici are also expected to accompany the DP.

Waiguru recently decamped to the Ruto-led party with the hope of defending her gubernatorial seat, while Ngirici has been a strong campaigner of the party, going further to disclose that she had funded the DP.
