Governor Waiguru's bid to have her billboards erected in Kirinyaga town ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebration, has hit a dead end.

This is after Kirinyaga businessman and politician Andrew Ngirici opted to give out the contested billboard to President Uhuru Kenyatta ahead of his visit to the county.

Ngirici, spouse to Kirinyaga Women Rep Wangui Ngirici, said that he had reached the decision to give out the billboard after consulting the National Celebration Commitee on Tuesday October 12.

Speaking to bodaboda riders in Wang'uru town, Ngirici said he had his wife's billboards erected a few months ago and that he had paid for them already.

"The National Government approached me and said that it's not going to force me to pull down my wife's billboards because I had paid for them. However, I have allowed them to pull some of the billboards and replace them with those of our president," he said.

The bodaboda riders, who are loyal to Ngirici, had caused drama after they charged at a contractor who had been contracted by the government to erect the president's bill board. The panicking workers had to plead mercy.

An intervention by the police proved futile after they were overwhelmed by the large number of the riders.

On hearing about the tension in Wang'uru town, Ngirici drove to the town while escorted by hundreds of riders from neighbouring towns and was later able to quell the tension.

"I am very grateful for your loyalty. For being able to protect Wangui's billboards even when I am not around."

He however revealed that he had accepted to have the president's billboards erected only under one condition.

"We have agreed that only President Uhuru Kenyatta's billboards will be erected and not the one's sponsored by the county government," he said.

Mwea East Sub County Deputy County commissioner Fred Ayeko has confirmed the claims made by Andrew Ngirici.

"We have reached a common ground that only President Uhuru Kenyatta's billboards are going to be erected," he averred.

Drama had also ensured on Sunday when alleged county officials tried to pull down Wangui's billboards and replace them with those of Governor Ann Waiguru.
