A titanic battle is anticipated in Kanduyi where current MP Wafula Wamunyinyi faces bitter rival, Alfred Khang’ati.

Wamunyinyi, the party leader of DAP-K will square it out with Khang’ati who has rejoined ODM for fear of being rigged out of the new party.

Khang’ati, a former assistant minister in the Office of the Prime Minister during the Grand Coalition Government quit DAP-K yesterday.

Khang’ati was elected in 2007-2013 on ODM and unsuccessfully vied twice for the Bungoma gubernatorial race in 2013 and 2017.

There has been pull and push between Wamunyinyi and Khang’ati over who should vie for the Bungoma senatorship with each of them still interested in the parliamentary seat.

Speaking yesterday during an interview on the local vernacular radio station, the politician explained that he is a life member of ODM.

Initially, Khang’ati who had decamped to DAP-K moved out after realising he may be kicked out in the primaries. Khang’ati accused Wamunyinyi of failure to develop the expansive constituency which hosts Bungoma town.

“People have approached me to come back and help them, they accused the current MP of failing them. During my tenure, I established many development projects which are visible,” he stated.

“I managed to construct Mupeli Primary School, Bungoma Bus Stage, established Bungoma KMTC and the Sang’alo Cultural Centre and that why voters have asked me to come back and represent them in parliament.”
