We shall let the matter rest – Jubilee candidate Susan Njeri concedes defeat in Juja
Susan Njeri, the Jubilee party candidate for Juja by-election has conceded defeat.
Njeri who addressed journalists in Nairobi today accepted a humiliating defeat she got from George Koimburi, the candidate for People's Empowerment Party who won the mini-polls after garnering 12,159 votes. Njeri got 5, 746 votes.
In her acceptance speech, Njeri congratulated Koimburi for the loud win and vowed to work with him to transform the populous Constituency.
Njeri at the same time rescinded her decision to appeal Koimburi's win over alleged malpractice and intimidation of voters in the process.
"For the sake of peace, we shall let the matter rest. We shall not lodge any case," she said.
During the tallying of votes on Wednesday, Njeri, alongside Jubilee party supporters stormed out of Mang'u High School over what they termed as IEBC's continuation of a flawed process and announcement of cooked results.
She, alongside Kiambu town MP Jude Njomo had vowed to move to court to quash IEBC's decision to announce Koimburi as the next MP saying they would push for fresh by-elections.
Njeri blamed her failure to clinch the seat that was left vacant by her husband Francis Munyua Waititu alias Wakapee to low voter turnout and intimidation of voters.
The exercise that took place on Tuesday this week saw a heavy presence of armed police officers including those from the General Service Unit man all polling stations, a move that reportedly resulted in people fearing to go and vote.
The huge loss for the ruling party is reported to have angered high level party operatives who have since proceeded on leave to establish the reasons behind the laud defeat.
