Former Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga has asked National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula to keep off Bungoma senate by-election.

He said the speaker should allow locals to elect their next senator on December 8 without being coerced.

Mwambu who is eyeing the seat on UDA party, regretted that Wetangula who is holding one of the top offices in the country has already started threatening those who are against his preferred candidate.

“Mr speaker, you are the president of the national assembly and you should be neutral when it comes to politics,” Mwambu said while in Tongaren.

He said Wetangula was also the father of Bungoma county and should embrace everyone without showing favourism.

He said the Ford Kenya chief should emulate other political leaders who have kept off politics after assuming administrative offices.  “Political leaders such as Kipchumba Murkomen have said they will not interfere with by elections in their areas, why is our speaker doing it here?”wondered Mwambu.

Wetangula has called on Bungoma residents to elect Ford Kenya’s candidate Wafula Wakoli in the by election.

He has pleaded with electorates not to make a mistake of electing a non Ford Kenya to lead them.

“We need to protect our house from outsiders not to invade it,”Wetangula has been urging locals.
