Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, on Monday, November 29, claimed that Deputy President William Ruto will beat Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga if elections are held today.

Mutunga said that Odinga has to pull up his socks if at all he wants to beat Ruto in the elections scheduled for August 2022.

He said that the hustler narrative which Ruto has been pushing was working well for him and it is easily convincing voters to support his presidential bid.

“The hustler thing is challenging the status quo, the haves versus the have-nots,” Mutunga told a local media house in an interview.

According to the retired Chief Justice, Ruto was a rich politician but he had managed to trick Kenyans into agreeing that he was suffering just like them.

Mutunga also said that Ruto’s handlers seem to be very conversant with what Kenyans go through and must be very wise.

He said that Odinga was being let down by his advisors who most likely don’t know how to click with the voters.

“Ruto works with very sharp advisors and once he is informed on what to do, he also uses his wisdom and it becomes easier for him to manoeuvre,” he said.

This is the second time, Mutunga is saying that DP Ruto was a wise politician who knows how to reach out to the voters.

Mid this year, Mutunga told a Belgian organisation that has huge investments in Kenya that he was a serious influencer.

Mutunga said that “Ruto is a brilliant mobilizer. I have never underestimated our politicians at all or even the religious leaders.”

He further stated that Ruto was only being optimistic because he was a beneficiary of a constitution that he never supported.
