The Wiper Movement Party led by Kalonzo Musyoka has announced plans to change its name and its official colours ahead of the 2022 general elections.

In a notice on a local daily, the party will drop the Kenya tag and will be publicly known as the Wiper Democratic Movement.

Despite changing its name, Wiper will also change its colours to new ones, which will be royal blue, white and earth red.

"Pursuant to Section 20(2) of the Political Parties Act, 2011, Wiper Democratic Movement - Kenya intends to change its name from Wiper Democratic Movement - Kenya (WDM-K) to Wiper Democratic Movement and its party colours from bold sky blue, white and earth red to royal blue, white and earth red," the statement read in part.

The party, however, maintained its umbrella branding alongside its earth red and white colours.

Wiper party is currently allied to the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) which consists of Ford-Kenya led by Moses Wetangula, Amani National Congress- led by Musalia Mudavadi and KANU under the leadership of Gideon Moi among other entities.

The party leader has been on record saying that the rebranding was aimed at making the party more acceptable to Kenyans and making it a national outfit.

Kalonzo on his part has insisted his name will be on the ballot come 2022, adding that Wiper has been supporting other candidates in the last years, and it is now time for others to support his presidential ambitions

He is expected to lock horns with other OKA principals for the flagbearer post, given that they are also keen on going for the top seat under their alliance.
