Central Organization of Trade Unions (Cotu) Francis Atwoli has supported Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed over her decision to disband the Football Kenya Federation.

Atwoli said that Amina's decision to disband the FKF was long overdue and negatively impacted the discipline in Kenya's football.

"FKF has been a thorn in the flesh of Kenyan football. They have been engaging in unnecessary politics and fights with the players, the government and other key actors in Kenya's football sector," Atwoli said..

The Cotu further noted that Kenya's national team Harambee Stars have been performing poorly in recent years due to the poor leadership and mismanagement of funds at FKF.

"As a county, we need to regain our lost glory as champions of East Africa. This will, however, need the government, through the Ministry of Sports, to be bold and assertive," he said.

Atwoli also politicians to keep off matters relating to the management of FKF. According to him, the politicians don't understand the challenges Kenyan footballers undergo hence they should not politicize the step taken by CS Amina.

"Politicians to keep off from the administration of football. Other than playing cheap populist politics, most politicians don't understand the challenges that our players face when they go for months without salaries and allowances as has been affecting most clubs," Atwoli said.
