The other day on a beautiful sunny afternoon, I decided to foodie shop for you readers.

Well, the sun nowadays decides to show off later in the afternoon, which contributes highly to my food choices.

I was at the Social House, which sits in Lavington Nairobi. I fancy the name too. I know I’m late to the party, especially since this spot was all the rage when it first opened.

Well, as the name suggests, they even refer to their guest rooms as bedrooms, giving it that casual vibe. I love the esthetic details the Social House gives, right from the reception.

Whiskey pairing

The restaurant on the ground floor is known as the Living Room, basically here is where the coffee is brewed and all the crispy sweet tooth goodies are prepared.

The rest of the hotel restaurants and sitting area, are namely The Other Room, Copper and the Peruvian Bar.

The location, of the day, was The Other Room, which has an indoor and outdoor sitting space, shaded umbrellas by the pool with a lot of greenery, flowers, and plants.

It was a whiskey pairing affair with Johnie Walker gold, and the cocktail that carried the day was the whiskey high ball.

A high ball is a scotch and soda, it has an interesting history of origin, but I’ll save that for another day, I know you want us to get to the meat (pun intended).

I was in the company of two other foodies and because we were in a mood to dine in and experience the meals, we went just a little bit wild with our orders.

Our order comprised of a meat platter, goat ribs, tilapia fish served with creamy mashed potatoes, and french fries.

I started with the sides, and the shed was just as they describe it in the menu. So smooth and creamy no lumps, easy to chew on, and had that buttery taste.

It was served in small unique, ceramic pots, literally bringing aesthetics to the table.

The meat platter had quite the variety, something I would recommend for people who want to share a meal.

Its one of those platters that describes the foodie line as “something for everyone”.

Tender and flavourful

It is comprised of beef tenderloin, (a beef cut that is described as an eye fillet in Australia, fillet in France, Fillet Mignon in Brazil, and fillet in the United Kingdom and South Africa).

I love the tenderness and flavourful taste of the tenderloin, especially when chewing on it.

The plate is also served with chicken, lamb, chicken wings, pork ribs, and onion rings.

The lamb was my favourite item in the platter, so savoury, juicy, and flavourful.

I’m, not such a fun of wings, especially because of bbq sauce, but my foodies tear them up, literally.

I went for the chicken thigh instead and loved every bit of every bite. The onion rings were a fave too, you could hardly taste the pungent acidic flavour of the onions.

That paired with a fishbowl of JW high ball, is the ultimate foodie pair.
