20 more succumb to Covid as ministry records 486 new cases

Twenty people were recorded to have succumbed to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours pushing the death toll to 2,368 on the day 486 tested positive for the disease.
In the latest Covid 19 updates, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said two of the deaths occurred in the last 24 hours, five within the last month and 13 being late death reports on diverse dates through facility audits.
“Our positivity rate is at 16.3 percent. From the cases, 457 are Kenyans while 29 are foreigners,” the CS added in the latest update, which also indicated the total confirmed positive cases has hit 146,156 from a cumulative tests of 1,564,827 samples.
Nairobi hotspot
From yesterday’s update the total fatalities involving people aged 60 years and above rose to 1,138 from 1,128 recorded on Sunday.
Fortunately, while 115 patients recovered from the disease, 61 from various health facilities and 54 from Home Based and Isolation Care, there have been no deaths involving children ages 0-9 years-old in the past several days.
The deaths involving 10-19 year -olds, rose to 18 from 17 on Sunday.
There has also been relatively low fatalities involving people aged 20-29; 30-39 and 40-49.
A total of 1,645 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,063 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care, Kagwe noted.
Nairobi remained a Covid-19 infection hotspot with a total of 349 out of the 486 followed by Kiambu at 21.
Kagwe said 487,278 people have been vaccinated. From this, 118,833 are health workers, 39,523 security officers, 70,338, teachers and 258,584 are other members of the public. In terms of gender, 275,382 are males and 211,746 females.
