4 promises Ruto made about g***********s today

President William Ruto has made several pledges in a bid to make cooking gas accessible in Kenyan households and promote the use of clean energy in the country.

Among the pledges he has made is cutting the cost of the 6kg gas cylinder by half the price.

Speaking during the launch of the Women Enterprise Fund at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Thursday, March 2, 2023, the Head of State asserted that the six-kilogram gas cylinders will cost between Ksh300 and Ksh500 by June this year.

To implement this, he stated that his government will remove tax levies so as to reduce the cost of gas cylinders and make them affordable to Kenyan households.

If implemented, the amount will be a sharp reduction from the current Ksh1200.

"Ile 8 per cent ambayo serikali inachukua kama ushuru kwa mambo ya gas, tutaondoa ndo tupunguze gharama ya gas wananchi wengi wawze kununua gas,

"Tutaweka pesa ya serikali kupunguza gharama ya mtungi ya gas ile kilo sita mnanunua 2500, 2,800 tutaishukisha chini mpaka shilingi 500 ama 300," he stated amid cheers from the crowd.

This loosely translates to:

"That eight per cent the government as tax on cooking gas takes will be removed to allow more Kenyans to have gas,

"We will allocate funds to reduce the cost of cooking gas, a six kg cylinder that is being sold at Ksh2,500, 2,800, will be reduced to Ksh500 or Ksh300," he stated.

Ruto additionally pointed out that his administration will begin a crackdown on cartels selling illegal gas cylinders that posed harm to households. He also vowed that his administration will deal with such unscrupulous individuals putting the lives of Kenyans at risk.

At the same time, the commander-in-chief issued a stern warning to businessmen extorting money from innocent Kenyans by selling underweight gas cylinders at hiked prices.

"We want to begin to register every person who is filling gas, you must be licensed by the government of Kenya so that we know who is filling what, wengine ni wakora wanasema mtungi ni kilo tano kumbe ameweka kilo tatu. Hao wakora wote lazima tuwasafirishe waende wakiendanga," he added.

Ruto subsequently issued instructions to the Ministry of Interior to ensure that all gas refilling stations are registered and licensed.

Further, the President reiterated that his administration was committed to ensuring that all schools and institutions have access to clean energy by 2025.
