Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Sam Nyamweya, former Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) secretary-general Nicholas Musonye and former federation vice-president Twaha Mbarak yesterday failed to present their nomination papers to the Electoral Board ahead of the October 17 national polls.

The trio are believed to have skipped the exercise after initially expressing reservations about the board conducting the poll and are planning to convene a press conference today to announce their way forward after the deadline for presenting nomination papers elapsed yesterday at 5pm.

While the trio who were tipped to give outgoing president Nick Mwendwa a run for his money in the polls where he will be defending his seat, skipped the exercise, four other aspirants seeking the position of president presented their papers and exuded confidence in ousting the incumbent.

Sports blogger Boniface Osano was the first one to present his papers a few minutes to 1pm and he will have former Gor Mahia and Mathare United player Innocent Mutiso as his running mate.

“We will make football better because we know what ails us.I want to state categorically that we are nobody’s project but the fans,” said Osano during a side interview at Kandanda House after presenting   papers to Electoral Board chairperson Kentice Tikolo and secretary Patrick Onyango.

Herbert Mwachiro who is a former Kenya Rugby Union director also presented his papers in the latter stages of the evening promising change on matters football management.

“For starters, we must ensure the elections are free and fair then we will be happy.

I am coming with determination to change football and we are saying grassroots is the way to go,”he said, flanked by his running mate Harold Ndege, a former Tusker FC player.

Former AFC Leopards chairman Dan Mule accompanied by his running mate, the former Kenya international Peter Lichungu, was cleared by the electoral board and he promised to focus on talent development and player welfare.

“There is no football without the fans so we must think about them first. We want a situation whereby players have a welfare Sacco to help them after retirement.

This federation has not done the best and we believe we are up to the task.We are all for accountability and transparency.”

Former Gor Mahia chief executive who has previously served at the federation as the secretary general Lodvick Aduda also presented his papers just before the deadline and he has another former football player Athanas Obango as his running mate.
