Athletics Kenya (AK) officials are planning a big party for Eliud Kipchoge next week.

Kipchoge, who asserted his authority as a the greatest marathoner of all time by becoming the first man to run 42km under two hours following his 1:59.40 time in Vienna, Austria last weekend, returned to the country quietly yesterday morning and headed straight to Eldoret but AK wants to make sure the athlete is celebrated.

“We are planning something special for Eliud.

We could not be able to do it today (yesterday) because he requested to be given time to rest. He will be here for a proper welcome from as well as an interaction with the media,” said AK boss Jack Tuwei.

Unlike the fanfare that greeted his departure to Vienna last week when he left aboard a private jet owned by British billionaire Sir James Ratcliffe, the brains behind the “INEOS 1:59 Challenge,” Kipchoge’s return was humble, just like he is known for, the only thing being a photo posted on Twitter by Kenya Airways before he left Amsterdam for Nairobi.

“He achieved what many thoughts was impossible. His slogan of no human is limited will inspire many people for generations to come,” added Tuwei.
