Alcohol, drugs catalysts for electoral violence — Nacada

Friday, July 22nd, 2022 02:20 | By

National Campaign Against Drug Abuse (Nacada) yesterday launched efforts to counsel youth against the use of alcohol and drugs during the election period.

The agency hosted a peace sensitisation forum at the Deliverance Church International in Eldoret that brought together 500 young people from all the six sub-counties of Uasin Gishu.

Nacada chief executive Victor Okioma said the forum was aimed at educating the youth against the use of alcohol and drugs during elections, substances which, he said, can be catalysts for violence.

“The youth have pointed out poverty, unemployment, tribalism and incitement by politicians as the main reasons which make youth indulge in violence,” he said.

Okioma said the Eldoret forum was the first of 10 that will be held across the country ahead of next month’s elections.
