American paper hails Mutahi Kagwe for solid crisis leadership: Coronavirus

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has featured in an American based business daily, The Wall Street Journal.

CS Kagwe who has been the face of Kenya's winning fight against novel coronavirus has been commended as Kenya's unlikely coronavirus hero.

"Kenya's unlikely coronavirus hero is Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe," says Wall Street Journal.

In the article titled 'In This Crisis, the Deputies Are The Heroes We Need' the author, Sam Walker highlights world's leading countries in management of Covid-19 crisis.

The April 4-5, 2020 publication notes that 'The leaders stepping up are the ones standing to the side of the lectern'.

It continues, "Mutahi is a businessman with an M.B.A who had washed out elective office"

The American daily that also has worldwide audience further describes CS Kagwe as a technocrat who is too ordinary and emotionally distant. It notes that Kagwe's traits became assets in his regular briefings on coronavirus.

The Wall Street Journal also cites a social media poll that ranked Mr. Kagwe 8 over 10 in leadership and crisis management.

In the print version of the publication, CS Kagwe's photo has been prominently featured alongside South Korea's director of Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Jung Eun-kyeong and UK's deputy chief officer Jenny Harries.

The newspaper has commended Kenya, South Korea and the UK as the leading nations in managing covid-19 crisis.

In the office for one month and he has received appraisals by Kenyans not only for his regular updates on covid-19 but also for his composure and braveness.
