Amoth attributes decline in numbers to curfew rules adherence
Acting Health Director General Patrick Amoth has attributed the declining number of Covid-19 cases to strict adherence to curfew hours imposed by the government.
“It is one of the measures that yielded great results and led to reduced virus transmission,” he said.
Fielding questions from Twitter users in his weekly #AskTheDG live chat, Amoth noted that though there was a general decline in the positivity rate, there was need for Kenyans to continue observing the containment measures to safeguard the gains made so far.
Our curve has shown proof of early reduction of new confirmed Covid-19 cases. In addition, the positivity rate has gradually declined from a high of 13 per cent in July to the current 7 per cent,” he said.
“This, however, doesn’t mean preventive measures should be relaxed. The pandemic is still active,” he cautioned.
He reiterated that management of Covid-19 is free in all public health facilities.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country has risen to 34,493 after 178 more tested positive from some 3,474 samples conducted in the last 24 hours.
In a statement to newsrooms, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said all those who tested positive are Kenyans except five foreigners .
“In terms of gender, 110 are males and 68 are females. The youngest is a three-year old baby while the oldest is 77 years,” he said.
Kagwe said that four more patients had succumbed which now brings the number of deaths to 581.
But on the flip side, 238 more patients have been discharged bringing the number of recoveries to 20,449.
Noting that 187 of these were under the home-based care programme while 51 were receiving treatment in various hospitals, Kagwe thanked healthcare workers for the good work they are doing.
According to the latest figures, Nairobi which leads in terms of infections has 48 new cases followed by Kericho (24), Busia (22), Garissa (12), Kiambu (12), Kisii (10) and Kisumu (nine).
