ANC leader, Wetang’ula told to retire from politics

A group of professionals from Western Kenya and youths have asked the Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi and embattled Ford-Kenya party leader Moses Wetang’ula to pave way for a younger generation.
Speaking yesterday in Nairobi, they accused the politicians of “selling the community to the highest bidder.”
Led by ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna, they accused the two of having no regard for the youth.
“It is our time to take the mantle from the older generation.The community is ready for a leadership change,” he said.
Sifuna also accused the two and other Western region leaders of failing to nurture successors.
Alex Matere, the chair of Luhya Professionals and Youths Caucus said the younger people in the region comprise more than 60 per cent of the population and the vote, hence they could not be ignored.
Petty scheming
“We are saddened by our leaders who are driven by selfish interests to auction the community,” said Matere.
Wetang’ula is currently fighting efforts led by Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi and secretary general Eseli Simiyu to oust him.
There is also talk of plans to have Mudavadi removed as party leader. Last week, nominated MP Godfrey Osotsi claimed ANC party leader’s term expires today.
They termed as house-keeping issues the current political realignment and shake up in political parties especially ANC and Ford Kenya.
“We challenge the leadership to put aside their petty scheming, selfish interest and ensure the House of Mulembe is united before we can talk to anyone else about BBI and 2022,” said Matere.
