Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi has said the Ministry of Interior will swing into action over the collapsed building in Nyamira County immediately investigations are complete.

Matiang'i expressed his worry over the criminal element in the entire process of construction of the multi-million County Assembly block.

"We will have to take action and very tough action on this. There is a criminal element in the process and we will not leave this matter unaddressed," the interior boss reiterated.

The CS spoke when he visited the collapsed building on Saturday afternoon.

The CS was accompanied by Governor Amos Nyaribo, county commissioner Amos Mariba and other County and National government officials.

He urged the residents of Nyamira to be calm as the relevant agencies will take up the entire process of investigations of the building that collapsed on Thursday evening last week..

According to the interior boss, if there will be any element of laxity, it will be dealt with according to the law.

"I have already instructed the DCI to get to the root of the entire issue. We cannot have such happenings while we have all the qualified personnel to deal with the issue. We hope the relevant authorities will establish whether the building will be brought down or it will still remain," said angered Matiang'i.

Matiang'i said he is interested in all the government projects and he will endure that there is no stone that remained unturned for any project in the country and said all the necessary information will expose the individuals who are sleeping on their job.

"I am very worried about this incident and as government we will take every step to ensure those culpable have faced the full force of the law. This is my home county and I am interested in knowing what took place leading to such incident," Matiang'i said.

On his side, Nyamira governor Amis Nyaribo said he will rely on the investigations from the relevant authorities in trying to establish the truth behind the collapse of the building.

"The National Construction Authority was in the County and we expect to get a report over what caused the collapse of the building so that we can be able to establish who really failed to do his part ," Nyaribo said.
