Anti-Corruption Commission hunts for Kitui county staff over graft

Two officers in the Kitui county government are on the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) radar over procurement malpractices.
The People Daily has established that EACC sleuths spent the weekend pursuing the County Chief Procurement Officer Joshua Munyaka and former acting chief officer for Trade, Francis Kea, after the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) sanctioned their prosecution.
Munyaka and Kea, who is currently a director in the department of Trade and Cooperatives, are accused of irregular purchase of five trucks for transportation of livestock.
A letter from the DPP dated December 11, 2019, to the EACC chief executive said there was sufficient evidence the two and gave a green light for their prosecution.
The letter signed by the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Emily Kamau was copied to the Kitui County Principal Prosecution Counsel Bonny Okemwa. Okemwa approved the charges against the two county officers last Thursday.
Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua on Sunday welcomed the move by EACC, saying it would deter misuse of public resources.
“Those who have messed up with county resources in whichever way must face the full force of the law.
I remind all officers employed by the county government that accountability is personal and defy orders from politicians to misappropriate funds as they would be held personally accountable,” he said.
He also challenged Governor Charity Ngilu to take political responsibility even as her officers are held accountable for the wrongdoing. He criticised her for allegedly defending officers implicated in corruption.
