Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today's happenings.

Heavy rains, floods

The Kenya Meteorological Department issued a warning urging Kenyans to prepare for significant rainfall expected throughout the week.

According to forecasts, the rainfall will persist in several regions including the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley.

Additionally, the North Western region and the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, encompassing Nairobi county, are also expected to be affected by the incoming rains.

Specifically for Nairobi, residents are advised to expect moderate to heavy rainfall, potentially reaching very heavy levels in certain areas.

Additionally, thunderstorms are predicted for most areas during the afternoon.

U20 Trophy

Kenya's U20 team is gearing up to face Tunisia in the Barthes Cup in Zimbabwe on Wednesday, April 24.

They're coming off a thrilling victory against Namibia, where they took a commanding lead of 23-6 at halftime and held on despite a second-half comeback attempt, securing a 34-28 win.

Meanwhile, Tunisia suffered a defeat against Zimbabwe in their opening match, losing 46-21.

Next up, Zimbabwe will take on Namibia. The ultimate prize in this tournament is qualification for the 2024 World Rugby U20 Trophy, which will be hosted in Scotland for the first time at the Edinburgh Rugby Stadium, with a capacity of 7,800 spectators.

Blackout

Kenya Power announced planned power outages affecting eight counties on April 24, 2024.

The outage, scheduled between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, is necessary for network maintenance according to the utility company.

In Nairobi, areas such as Ridgeways Lane, Castle Gardens, and Garden Estate Academy will experience interruptions. Similarly, in Uasin Gishu, locations like Moi University Main Campus and Talai Estate will be affected.

Busia County will see outages in places like Lubiri and Khungukhungu, while Kisii will experience interruptions in Nyabururu Complex and Matoke.

Parts of Migori, such as Uriri and Kamsaki, will also be affected, along with areas in Homa Bay like Denis Obara Secondary School and Ramula Market.

Nyeri will see outages in Blue Line and Kakuret, while in Kiambu, Ruaka Town and Gertrude's Ruaka will experience interruptions.
