Arama fined Sh1.5m for Sh60m land scam

Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama was yesterday fined a total of Sh1.5 million or serve six years in jail in the Sh60 million land fraud.

Senior Principal Magistrate Victor Wakumile fined the legislator Sh260,000 in six counts.

“I have considered the mitigation and sentencing guidelines and I have noted that the property in question was restored and therefore the accused never benefited,” ruled the magistrate.

The magistrate further fined former Nakuru Lands registrars John Mwaura, Daniel Kimori and Charles Birundu who were charged alongside Arama Sh1 million each or to serve jail terms ranging from four to five years.

Lawyer Kennedy Begi Onkoba, who was also charged with Arama, was fined Sh520,000 for two counts or serve two years in prison. Arama was found guilty of abusing his office and authority to fraudulently acquire plots Nakuru Municipality Block 6/95 thereby displacing Muhammad Nisar Ahmed.

Arama and his co-accused were charged with committing the offence between August 3, and August 11, 2015.

Arama was charged with making a land sale agreement without lawful authority in respect of the plot, the property of Nisar, purporting it to have been signed by Yusuf Mustafa Ratemo.
