Gor Mahia FC midfielder Austin Odhiambo has reiterated his ambition to rejoin the national team Harambee Stars and don the national team colors in the future.

The player, currently in top form in the league, was dropped from the Stars' preliminary squad for the Four Nations in Malawi, sparking criticism from fans nationwide who believe he deserved a chance.

Austin case in Harambee

Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat, in response, explained that Odhiambo's exclusion from the team was due to indiscipline.

Firat defended his decision, stating that the player feigned illness last year after failing to travel with the team to Qatar for a friendly match against the host nation.

"Last September, he and Stanley [Wilson] were in camp, so what happened? He couldn't get a visa to go to Qatar, but I told them we would only be in Qatar for two days, so I wanted them back.

"We came back, Stanley was already there, but no sign of Austin. No one could reach him. His brother Tyson Otieno was here; I asked him, 'Where is Austin?' He said he doesn't know, which is strange," Firat said a presser weeks ago.

"The next day at 2 pm, our team manager gets a message from Austin saying he has malaria and he has started recovering. I wondered if he could recover from malaria in two days; it's not easy," he added.

"A few hours later, Gor Mahia played against Mathare United. Who played? Who scored the goal? So, I'm wondering now when everybody in the federation knows this, and the next day, I told the truth to the press. It's no secret, and it's clear, but I am surprised how someone can write these insults online."

However, while speaking to Gor Mahia's media, Odhiambo held that the issue is resolved, and he is working hard to earn a place in the national team.

"Regarding the matter, my primary goal at this juncture is to don the national team jersey someday, and I persistently strive to achieve it, as it is the dream of every player.

" I believe the issue has been resolved, and I am diligently working to merit a call-up to the national team," he told Gor Mahia TV.

The national team, Harambee Stars, and its junior counterpart, Rising Stars, participated in the Four-Nations tournament in Malawi, of which Odhiambo missed.

Odhiambo will be seeking to extend his fine form to the remainder of the season. As league action resumes, attention will be on key fixtures, including Gor Mahia's clash against Kakamega Homeboyz, as they seek to extend their lead at the top of the table.
