Autopsy links poisoning to student doctor’s death

The 35-year-old Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) pediatrician, who allegedly committed suicide inside her car on Saturday died because of chemical poisoning.

A postmortem conducted on Tuesday evening at Chiromo Mortuary revealed that most of Dr Lydia Wahura Kanyoro’s vital organs had collapsed as a result of the poisoning.  

Family members and police officers were present during the exercise.  

Kanyoro’s body was found inside her car at the Kenyatta National Hospital parking lot moments after leaving an MA class at the University of Nairobi that is within the hospital.

The head of security at the School of Medicine, George Onyango, reported that he spotted the body at the back seat of the deceased car, a Mazda Verisa, within the hospital’s parking lot on Saturday at 1pm.

The body was immediately identified and the officials alerted officers from the Capitol Hill police station.

Two bottles of anaesthesia drugs, alongside a syringe were found at the scene.

Police also found an printed alleged suicide note in the car.

Her colleagues said they saw her on June 12 checking into the lecture hall at around 9am and registered for her class.

Few minutes later, she was seen leaving the lecture hall under unclear circumstances as she headed to her car at around 9.30am.

Classmates described her as a hardworking professional,  and a brilliant student.
