Lugari MP Ayub Savula has been roughed up by a section of youths while allegedly dishing out handouts in his constituency.

In a video making rounds on social media and seen by People Daily Digital on Tuesday, October 12, the MP is seen trying to communicate to the youths who were shouting him down.

"We do not want money. Do not take that money," the charged youths who had circled the MP could be heard saying.

Some of the youth can also be heard telling the MP that they were ready to listen to what he had to say on the condition that he does not give them money.

In the video, the MP was led away from a school playground where he was with the youths who refused to listen to what he had to say.

One of the youths can be heard asking how much the MP was dishing out to which another replied that Savula was handing out Ksh100.

Efforts by People Daily Digital to reach the MP for comment were futile as his phone did not go through.

The attack on Savula comes as politicians and Kenyans eyeing elective posts warm up to the youth with an aim of netting their votes ahead of the August 2022 polls.

While addressing the youth from Mt Kenya on Tuesday, October 12 Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga promised to allocate four positions in his cabinet to the youth if elected president.

This is after he promised the unemployed youth a monthly stipend of Ksh6000 if he is elected president, a move that drew a lot of criticism with ANC chief Musalia Mudavadi terming the pledge as populist politics.

“When you start doing the numbers how do you fund that?” he posed adding that “I can tell you for free donors will not come in to fund such a program. They will be very critical and analytical on the sustainability of the program because no one has free money,” Mudavadi said in an interview with Capital News.
