Azimio demos: Tanzanians in Kenya cautioned, advised to call embassy for help
Tanzanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation has issued an advisory to its citizens in Kenya following the planned weekly demos by Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry has asked all Tanzanians living in Kenya to take all necessary precautions as they go about their activities in light of Azimio demos.
The Director of communications at the Foreign Affairs Ministry ambassador Mindi Kasiga while addressing the media said that Tanzanians living in Kenya should maintain close contact with the country's High Commission in Kenya which she said will offer help if needed.
"Ubalozi wetu nchini Kenya chini ya uongozi wa mheshimiwa Simbachawene, ndo balozi wetu kule Stephen Simbachawene, anafwatilia hilo swala kwa karibu sana. Kwa kweli Watanzania wachukue tahadhari zote kwa sababu huwezi kujua saa ngapi utakua wapi lakini unavyotoka kuenda kwenye shuguli zako chukua tahadhari za kina kabisa lakini pia uwe na mawasiliano ya karibu na ofisi za ubalozi kwa ajili ya lolote ile," she said.
Kasinga acknowledged that Kenya hosts a large diaspora community of Tanzanians who are mostly involved in businesses, urging them to use the hotline provided at the country's High Commission should they need any help.
"Tuna diaspora kubwa sana ya Watanzania nchini Kenya na wako katika maeneo tofauti tofauti lakini wengi wao ni wafanya biashara ambao wanaendesha shuguli zao za biashara kule. Kwa hivyo tunachowaomba na kuwasihi ni kuwa makini kuchukua tahadhari zote zinazotolewa na pia kuweka mahusiano ya karibu. Kuna namba ya hotline pale ubalozini wawe nayo karibu, wakipata matatizo yoyote, saa yoyote wawepo na hio number karibu ili waweze kupewa msaada," she said.
Consulate
The director of communications at the Foreign Affairs Ministry further said that she did not expect any violence to break out in Mombasa, adding that should chaos occur Tanzanians can seek help from the country's consulate at the coastal city.
"Lakini sio tu hivyo, tuna konseli (consulate) kuu Mombasa. Hatutegemei kama pia Mombasa patachafuka lakini kama patachafuka pia kule tuna konseli kuu. Kwa hio wafanyi biashara kule, hususan wanaotoka Pemba, wanaofanya biashara zao kutoka Uguja kuenda Pemba na mbaka Mombasa pia watambue hilo kwamba tunaye konseli mkuu ambaye ikiwa kuna tatizo lolote linatokea kwa Mtanzania pia yuko tayari kuchukua tahadhari na yuko tayari kutoa msahada," she said.
Demos
Azimio leader Raila Odinga announced that the anti-government protests that began on Monday, March 20, 2023, will be held every Monday and Thursday from next week.
A section of Muslim leaders have urged Raila to suspend the demos arguing that it will interfere with Ramadhan - a holy month of worship, study of the Quran, prayer and fasting.
