Westlands Member of Parliament Timothy Wanyonyi has revealed that Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya alliance will name a candidate for Nairobi County governor seat on Thursday.

Speaking to the press, Wanyonyi said he will abide by the decision of the alliance.

"The coalition I belong to is in consultation and will be issuing a statement on Nairobi this Thursday. The decision of the coalition will be an addition or subtraction to my ambitions,” he said.

He, however, urged his supporters to be firm, adding that he is still in the race until the decision is made by the Azimio leaders.

"Leadership is a calling and from the beginning, I always say 'si mimi ni sisi' (it's not me, but us). I am still in the race," he said.

In December 2021, ODM leader Raila Odinga endorsed Wanyonyi for the city's top job.

"Although I'm here as a football player and not a politician, I want to say our next Nairobi Governor is Tim. He is doing a good job, and deserves the ODM ticket in 2022," Raila said when he attended a football match at Kabete Technical that was sponsored by Wanyonyi.

Raila said the MP's development record speaks for itself.

Others in Azimio who will battle out for Raila-Uhuru endorsement include businessman Richard Ngatia, Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu and businesswoman Agnes Kagure.

Kenya Kwanza coalition has since unveiled Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja as its candidate for the city governor seat.
