Armed Police officers disrupted a meeting held by The Service Party (TSP) run by former Cabinet Secretary (CS) Mwangi Kiunjuri,

The Saturday, June 5 raid by security officers disrupted a recruitment excercise by Kinujuri's TSP party.

Kiunjuri was adressing leaders seeking his party's nomination when police lobbed tear gas cannisters dispersing the event.

Speaking to journaslists, Kiunjuri described the incident was an instance of political inteolerance decrying that his party had not contravened the Ministry of Health regulations on Covid-19 protocols.

"The most important thing that should be noted is that as we are speaking, there are other individuals holding meetings elsewhere," Kiunjuri was captured saying on video before a teargas was lobbed in his direction.

The disruption of Kiunjuri's meeting takes place days after President William Ruto's allied United Democratic Alliance accused police of harassment through disruption of their meetings.

On Thursday, June 3, Nandi County UDA leaders complained of harrasment after police disrupted their meeting at Kibwareng.

"We had taken into consideration all the Covid-19 protocols. From social distancing to ensuring everyone had a mask," the UDA Nandi County coordinator said

The disruption of UDA party's meeting on Thursday in Nandi happened some hours after police stormed another party meeting in Mombasa.

Police called off the meeting convened by Former Machakos senator Johnston Muthama in Nyali Mombasa citing violation of Covid-19 protocols.

The meeting, which had brought together UDA party aspirants from the Coast, ended prematurely after police hurled teargas canisters to disperse them

Muthama, the party chairman, was forced to cut short his speech and drive off from the hotel to avoid police arrest

The meeting had been scheduled at Terrace Villa Resort, located in Nyali.

"It was a private meeting, they were not many. The number was within the required threshold. We did not intend to take long but we are disappointed that disrupted the meeting," Muthama told journalists.
