Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) Director-General Mohammed Badi was yesterday forced to control his rage trying to explain to the traders whose structures had earlier been demolished at the popular Lunar Park.

Badi spoke while visiting the park where demolitions were carried out in the wee hours of Wednesday.

He appeared a little bit uneasy when he was asked a question, which seemed to have  rubbed him the wrong way.

This resulted in him losing his cool, and lashed out at the angry business owners.

“If you have any issue you’d like addressed, there is a proper procedure to follow.

If you have a lease, you can get your lawyers, go to court and sue Kenya Reinsurance Corporation (Kenya Re),” he said.

He added: “Those are the government procedures. So why do you want to create violence?  Did you fight when coming for this lease? That will be settled in court.”

Badi clarified that the land will be used to put up a bus termini in the city to cater for Public Service Vehicles plying from Mombasa road, Machakos and Ngong road.

Good intentions

“This is going to be a busy terminus, while we re-direct the routes of all those PSV vehicles. We have good intentions.

We intend to transform this place into a beautiful green park terminus borrowed from the model of the Greyhound Terminus in New York,” he said.

From here, we will have a Nairobi Metropolitan Transport corridor, to enable somebody cycling or walking to the Central Business District  easy access without interference of traffic, he noted.

Badi said similar projects are going on in three other places: Grogan area (Kirinyaga road) running all the way to Globe Round About and Desai Park.

It will allow commuters alighting and boarding from these termini to enjoy the services offered there such from eateries.
