Bodaboda man joins race for Kiambu gubernatorial seat
The race to succeed Governor James Nyoro is steaming up as the clock ticks closer to the elections next year.
Some 10 months to the election, two more persons have expressed interest in contesting for the Kiambu County gubernatorial position.
Muturi Mungai alias Muturi Wa Nduthi, a boda boda operator and a vocal youth leader is among the two new entrants who are harbouring the gubernatorial position, a move that is expected to change the race's arithmetic.
"It's time for the youth to lead, make the changes they've been agitating for. I have sacrificed myself to be on the frontline and I look forward to a smooth journey of transforming our county," he said.
Dr. Juliet Gathoni, a former senatorial contender in the same constituency has also vowed to unseat Nyoro come next year on a Kenya African National Union (KANU) ticket.
Gathoni who was also the CEC in charge of trade and at some point in charge of transport at the county says she has all it takes to effectively run the devolved unit.
"I ran for Senate in 2017 and got serious votes on KANU despite the Jubilee wave. I proceeded to join Government as a CEC for 3 years therefore I have the requisite experience, touch with the public at all levels, have a commendable experience on how to run a Government prudently," she told People Daily Digital this evening after her poster started flickering on social media.
Gathoni maintained that she knows the strengths and weaknesses of all the three Governors who have been at the helm since the regional governments were introduced and insisted that the county is in a mess because of leadership styles, competencies and vested interests.
Gathoni will now be battling it out with governor Nyoro who will be seeking reelection, Thika MP Patrick Wainaina, senator Kimani Wamatangi and former governor William Kabogo.
