Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok has promised to ensure talented athletes from the country who are living with disabilities are uplifted.

Speaking during the inaugural Paralympics and Deaflympics Sports Day at the weekend, Barchok said his administration will scout and nurture raw talent in the special category so that they can compete for honours both nationally and internationally.

“This year’s theme ‘Gifted Differently through Sports’ is a true reflection of the disability is not inability mantra. For a long time, able-bodied athletes have been given a chance while the disabled are ignored and it is my hope that this day sets a new dawn for them,” said Barchok, while promising to have the event annually.

“Going forward, this sporting event will be anchored in the county’s yearly calendar where we will run to embrace disability and expose talents in sports,” he added. Barhock said paralympians not only change lives but also the world since sports has the capacity to promote unity.
