Police in Murang'a are pursuing a male suspect believed to have killed a seven-year-old boy in Saba Saba, Murang'a County.

The suspect, only identified as Mwaura, is said to have abducted Godwin Chege from his home last Sunday after which he started demanding for money.

Mwaura is said to have worked as a farmhand at Chege's home for only four months.

According to Muiruri Njuguna, the grandfather to the deceased, the suspect told him he no longer wanted to work there and he left. The little boy disappeared the same day the suspect left work.

Njuguna said they sent him Sh4, 000 that he was demanding as his pay for the days he had worked.

"He did not give reasons why he wanted to leave but may be he had already planned to kidnap the boy," said Njuguna.

However after being paid the money, the family woke up to a rude shock finding the body of the child dumped in their farm. The body was beheaded and the legs had been cut off.

The clothes which the boy was wearing had been dumped few meters from where his lifeless body was lying.

The family said the suspect was calling them demanding for a ransom of Sh50, 000.

"We want justice to prevail and the man who killed our child to face the law," Njuguna.

He claimed there was no grudge between the two and he does not understand why the farmhand decided to kill the boy.

DCIO Murang'a South David Cheruiyot said they are tracking down the suspect to bring him to book.

He also said they shall conduct DNA test on the body to ascertain his identity.

He however said this might take some time as the mother works outside the country and the father to the boy is not known.

"We have some leads which we are pursuing to nab the suspect," he said.
