The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) secretary general Wilson Sossion has been accused of  complacency and insensitivity over matters affecting the union.

Eight National Executive Council (NEC) officials are now demanding that he calls a special summit to discuss union issues, key among them withdrawal of members and the financial crisis it is undergoing.

The eight have written to Sossion, asking him to convene a meeting within seven days, failure to which they will call for one.

“We, being bona fide members of the union and NEC members, and acting in accordance with the law of Knut together with all the enabling provisions of the law of Kenya, do hereby write to requisition an urgent and special NEC meeting within the next seven days to discuss the state of the union,” read the letter.

Losing members

The eight are: Michael Muna, Bashir Odowa, Anne Njoroge, Emily Mito, Modesta Akaki, John Karanu, Javan Wachira and Warda Mohammed.

The members hosted by Muna, who is the Kiambu West Knut branch secretary, said the union faces the risk of losing more members unless urgent measures to address the issues are taken.

The situation, he said,  is further exacerbated by the fact that Teachers Service Commission seems all out to kill the union.
