Canadian charged with Sh60m Kajiado land fraud

A Canadian national was on Wednesday charged at the Milimani Law Courts with defrauding a Sh60 million land parcel in Kajiado county.

Sheppard Nelson Jason is accused of allegedly obtaining the said land, property of Jeremiah Sailoji and Ann Baxter on June 5, 2012 claiming that the land had been transferred to him, a fact knew to be false.

He was also charged with forgery and uttering false documents indicating the ownership of the land.

The court heard that the accused forged a land transfer form signed by the owners and purported it to be genuine transfer signed and stamped by J M Onyancha Advocates, a fact he knew was false.

He was further charged with uttering a forged land transfer form to the then Land Registrar Rufus Kalama at Ngong Land Registry in Kajiado county.

He appeared before the Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina and denied the charges.

The accused is a pastor and a missionary from Canada and has been in Kenya since 2010 running a charitable children’s home on the said land since 2012.

Onyina released him on a Sh200,000 cash bail with one Kenyan contact person.

The case will be mentioned on June 9, 2023.
