Chang’aa business booms du**ng COVID-19 cri**s as bars remain closed
Bomet county commissioner Geoffrey Omodi has raised concern over the continued defiance of the government’s order banning social gatherings by illicit brewers in the region.
Omoding said it was saddening to note that residents had now turned to local brews being made in the villages due to total closure of bars and other social places across the county’s trading centers.
He pointed out that in the last one week, up to 10, 000 liters of chang’aa had been destroyed across the county by joint teams of administrators and security officers with the brewers being arrested and released on bails.
Giving a stern warning to those defying the directives, Omoding said if found they will be put into forced quarantines at their own costs.
He also warned that any officer found to be aiding the business in their areas of jurisdiction will be dealt with as per the law.
He instructed the area assistant county commissioners to work with the area chiefs to bring to an end the retrogressive act of illegal businesses at the villages.
