Chania Boys High School principal has died aged 59 years.

Alan Macharia collapsed in his office and died on Thursday afternoon while attending a Board of Governance (BOG) meeting.

Thika West Sub County director of education Ronald Mbogo eulogized the school head as a dedicated, experienced, veteran principal who was ever jovial.

He had served the school for two years before he passed away.

“He was very experienced. He was those teachers who taught with dedication and passion. It’s unfortunate we lost him when he was still attending school functions,” said Mbogo.

Thika West Sub County police commander Beatrice Kiraguri said the school head was pronounced dead on arrival at Thika Level Five Hospital.

The institution’s deputy Simon Wahome said that his boss who was in his office with other school staff had complained of difficulty in breathing.

He said the school head had just finalized a lengthy board meeting that sought to address the construction of a new dormitory.

“I got information from one of our school staff while I was still in the house. I hurriedly drove him to Thika Level Five Hospital where he was announced dead upon arrival,” he said.

The news took many educationists including Thika West Heads Association chairman Julius Muraya with shock.

Muraya said the school head who had also served Kirogo boys in Murang’a County as a principal was on medication for a long time and had been admitted to various hospitals after suffering a heart attack.

Many described the long-serving principal as a jovial, selfless, dedicated and passionate man who went out of his way to ensure things are done in the right way.

Muraya said the deceased was on medication as three years back he had suffered a heart attack and was hospitalized at the Agha khan hospital.

Mwangi Macharia, his son described the father as a jovial, loving man who cared for his family with passion.

The body of the school head has been preserved at Kenyatta University Funeral Home.
