A charity organisation has come to the rescue of five aspirants, who unsuccessfully contested the seat for Kanyenyaini Ward in Murang’a county.

Ahadi Kenya has supported the five to start a chicken and dairy cow rearing project to help them kickstart their lives after investing heavily in the campaigns in which they lost.

Speaking yesterday while handing over chicks to the beneficiaries, Ahadi Kenya Director Dr Stanley Kamau said the organisation will be visiting other wards and give support to other aspirants who failed to clinch seats. He was accompanied by the area MCA Grace Nduta.

Kamau also appealed to politicians who were supporting the needy in various ways but failed to win in the just-concluded elections to continue with their support.

“There are those who were paying fees to needy children and others supporting the aged and poor. They should continue with their good course and not base their support on the outcome of the elections,” remarked Kamau.

Nduta thanked those who participated in the elections, saying she will incorporate them in her administration to ensure development for the people of Kanyenyaini.

“I will engage my worthy opponents and I promise to work with them and help the people of Kanyenyaini get the much needed development,” Nduta added.

One of the beneficiaries, George Kinyanjui, appreciated the support, saying he spent more than Sh500,000 campaigning.

Kinyanjui, who worked as a Board of Governors teacher, decried how his house and property were razed during the campaigns.

He lauded the chicken he got, saying within a period of four months he hopes to start making money from the venture.

Another beneficiary, Anthony Maina, noted it was his first time to vie for an elective position, saying he depleted all his savings and now he has embarked on searching for employment.

Maina said it was a rare show to get support from Ahadi and called on elected leaders to fulfill their campaign promises.
