Chepng’etich the woman to beat in 1,500m
World and Olympics 1,500m champion Faith Chepng’etich, who has a personal best of 3:56.41, will lead a pack of 13 runners in the hunt for the top three slots to the World Championships during tomorrow’s trials.
Chepng’etich will face newly-crowned African Games 1,500m champion Quailyne Jebiwott and silver medallist Mary Kuria as well as 2017 World Under-18 bronze and 2018 Africa Youth Games silver medallist Edinah Jebitok at the trials.
The 18-year-old Jebitok boasts of personal and season’s best of 4:05.23 ran at the 58th Ostrava Golden Spike meet on June 20, 2019, at the Mestsky Stadio, in the Czech Republic.
Others in the fold are Winny Chebet, Sela Jepleting, Judy Jepng’etich, Loice Chemung, Wilfred Mbithe, Josephine Chelangat, Viola Langat, Nancy Chepkwemoi and Marceline Cherono. The race will begin with heats tomorrow before the semis and finals on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Sports will launch residential training camp for Team Kenya in Nairobi on Sunday.
The team will be named on Friday after the conclusion of the national trials and the squad will leave for Doha on September 24 and 25, starting with marathoners.
