The government is seeking to replace Huduma Namba with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) PIN in a move to curb tax evasion.

Through the Huduma Namba Bill, 2021, the government seeks to make the Huduma Namba ID an identifier of taxpayers.

"Huduma Namba assigned to an individual under the Huduma Act, 2021 shall serve as the PIN for the purpose of tax law," the Bill read.

If the Bill is put in law, it will mean that children who have been offered the Huduma Namba will automatically be listed as taxpayers once they attain 18 years and will be required to file tax returns annually regardless of their income status.

This comes after KRA realised that most people evade tax by failing to file their returns.

The government is now seeking to bring into book the tax evaders by requiring that the Huduma Namba also serves as KRA PIN.

Children who have registered for the Huduma Namba will be registered as a taxpayer upon reaching 18 years.

"KRA shall activate tax obligation of every resident individual above the age of eighteen years not registered as a taxpayer," the Bill said.
