Best performers in the 2018 Kenya Certificate of Primary education KCPE have yet again emerged victorious in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination results.

Audrey Chebet, 18 years, who scored a mean grade of A minus of 81 points at Light Academy Secondary school Mombasa, was among the top ten students in the coast region and top candidate at Aga Khan Academy Mombasa with 428 marks.

Her mother Beth Njoroge described her daughter as a fighter and go-getter who has dedicated her time to studies. She said her daughter, who has a passion to become a doctor, was inspired by reading a lot of books.

Future endevours

“My daughter reads widely, she reads a lot of books and I believe all these have inspired her, she is a go-getter who does not give anything to chance. When she became the best student at their school in KCPE, the writing was on the wall that she would make a mark in her KCSE,” said Njoroge.

Ummu-Kulthum Ahmed Abdulmajid scored an A of 83 points. In the 2018 examination, the Aga Khan Primary School pupil scored 419 out of 500 marks.

On Friday, Ummu-Kulthum, who was accompanied by her grandfather to Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Secondary and Technical School in Mombasa, said she was excited by her performance.

According to her, the timing of the syllabus coverage was a challenge, forcing her to study extra hard, a fact she says contributed greatly to her excellent performance.

Her grandfather Mohamed Rashid could not hide his joy when he accompanied the granddaughter to school. School Principal Hamisi Mohammed said the institution was proud of the 2022 KCSE results. “Ummu-Kulthum has been the top student in the school since she joined Form One. She is disciplined, I wish her all the best in her future endeavours” said Mohammed.

Brian Chege Gikonyo, who scored A minusof 77 points in the KCSE at Light academy, was also among the top students in primary school after scoring 413 marks in his KCPE examinations.

“I aspire to study law in the university so that I can defend the people’s rights, thank the teachers and parents of light academy for the support they accorded us despite a very tough school calendar,” Gikonyo noted.

Another  top scorer from Light Academy was 17 - year- old Farida Abdi who scored A minus of 79 points.

Hard work

Another student is John Manda who scored 421 in her primary school and got A- at the Light academy. Manda, who has an ambition to become an engineer, says his hard work and collaboration with teachers contributed to his success.

In the Coast, Light Academy mean grades improved from 8.72 in 2021 to 9.89 in 2022 KCSE exams. The school has produced the best in the coast region with one A plain of 81 points, A- (23), B+15 and B plain 18.

Yerkin Kalzhanov from Light Academy School said  they were honoured to have topped  the entire coast region, attributing the success to hard work and collaboration between teachers, parents and the students. “We have produced the best results in the coastal region, our mean grade has improved and we can only attribute our success to the good relationship between parent’s teachers and students who made us proud,” said Kalzhanov.
