Coast tourism circuit slowly roaring back to life as Diani hotels re-open

HOSPITALITY: A section of tourist hotels in Diani, Kwale County have re-opened for business after meeting the public health requirements issued to them by the Ministry of Health as part of the measures of fighting the Coronavirus disease.
Despite low business with a bed occupancy of about 35 per cent, at least they are managing to have guests in their restaurants and one-day conferences.
The managers of the facilities are, however, optimistic about next month, revealing that they already have bookings, with most guests expected, especially from Nairobi.
Swahili Beach Resort Sales and Marketing Manager Diana Amayi said they have embraced digital marketing since re-opening, adding that this has assisted the business.
“Since we re-opened we have only relied on online marketing and the feedback is not bad.
As you know nowadays everyone has gone digital and moved to social media so when you market your product it’s easier for everyone to see,” she said during an interview with Business Hub yesterday.
The resort’s General Manager, Jeff Mukholwe noted that they have lowered the facility rates by 65 per cent as a way of marketing and reviving the business as “soronavirus has hit each and everyone financially”.
Diani Reef Resort General Manager Jotham Mwacharo also confirmed that guests had checked in their facility.
“Though business is low but we have guests who have checked in and we are looking forward to more bookings,” he said.
Other tourist hotels and villas that are open to guests include Nomads Beach Resort, Sands at Chale Island, Almanara villas among others.
