Commodity prices, fuel shortages among key issues Embu residents want to be addressed in 2022/23 budget
Embu residents are calling on President Uhuru Kenyatta to lower the prices of basic commodities in the country's 2022/2023 budget that is set to be read this afternoon.
While giving their expectations in the budget, the residents noted that they are currently struggling with the high cost of living in the country hence the government should step in and help.
"The prices of commodities including maize and sugar have gone up at the moment. We, therefore, call on the government to step in and reduce these high prices," Eunice Nyawira, a resident of Embu said.
On his side, Macharia Nyaga, a bodaboda operator asked the government to sort out the shortage of fuel in the country. He noted that the shortage of the commodity almost cost him his livelihood since he couldn't afford to fuel his bodaboda which is his main source of income.
He said that if the challenge of full shortage is not addressed as soon as possible then his family will be driven to an absolute financial crisis.
"We need to hear the plans the government has in addressing the fuel crisis in the country," Nyaga said.
Solomon Katunge, a resident of Kiritiri in Mbeere South on the other side said that he wants to see the government allocate more resources to anti-graft agencies in the budget. According to him, this will enhance the country's war against corruption.
Katunge asserted that corruption is the biggest problem that is making the cost of living in Kenya high and hence needed to be dealt with.
"If we fight corruption then all will be well," Katunge said.
