The High Court on Thursday released a senior police officer accused of murdering a university student Carilton David Maina in Kibera slum on cash bail of Sh 600,000.

Justice Jessie Lessit at the same time gave an alternative of Sh 1 million bond with a similar surety to Corporal Emmanuel Ambunya attached to Kenyatta National Hospital police post after pleading not guilty to the murder charge.

This followed a successful application for bail by his lawyer Cliff Ombeta who told the court that his client is not flight risk since he is still serving in National Police Service.

The judge ordered the accused not to visit Kibera area and that not to interfere with prosecution witnesses.

The officer is facing a charge of murdering University of Leeds student Carilton David Maina on December 22, 2018 at Laini Saba in Kibera.
